Retail Update: United BBQ, Ives Street

in Retail Updates

Providence’s restaurant scene continues to, out of the blue, get more interesting and less New-American/Italian dominated (see the Chinese Laundry, the crepe place on Weybosset, and Tini’s) with the opening of the takeout United BBQ on 146 Ives Street on the East Side. In the works for some time, United BBQ is yet another step in Ives Street’s sudden development into a mixed used retail corridor connecting Wickenden and Wayland Square.

The menu contains most of the usual BBQ meat, sides, and dessert standards, but scrolling to the bottom of their online menu reveals some interesting vegetarian BBQ options, including BBQ seitan. Providence restaurants of all genres have been waaay too slow in employing convincing “fake meat” items on their menus.

Opening at the cusp of winter, I sure hope United BBQ will be a warm, tasty, and popular addition to our winter dining options!

This is also a nice example of our existing built environment continuing to be improved. The building looks fabulous.

I’ve been there as well, and I agree with what Thermos said. The seitan sandwich was great and the portions are indeed generous. The sweet potato fries were very nice and the potato boat was quite good as well. Definitely a winner, and I bet it will get quite popular.

The food was great! So moist and tasty, the ribs were finger-licking good, the pulled pork was full of flavor. I’ll definilitely be going back!

What’s the dessert situation there, people? Also, do they have a bar, or is it just soft drinks?
