Hampton Inn Progress

35-weybosset

Hampton Inn & Streets on Weybosset Street.

While of course I’m less than thrilled (to say the least) with Granoff for closing the Arcade, I must give credit where credit is due and say I’m really liking how the Hampton Inn & Suites on Weybosset Street is turning out. I’m loving that the structure with the arch in it hugs the bend in Weybosset Street. I’m loving the arch. I like that the new tower is a different material than the original and not trying to ape the old. And I like the strip of glass that runs up between the old and new parts to indicate where the seem is, and where the addition starts. Making the old and new unique and having so much articulation in the facade flows smoothly with the rest of the buildings on the street.

I will be interested to see how the area inside the arch works, and to see how the pedestrian passthrough to Pine Street is treated.

Of course the Arcade Garage really guts the streetwall, and the facade across the street where OneTen Westminster was supposed to be built and the now vacant Arcade are just heart wrenching. 🙁
