The Advocate in a story this month speculates that Mayor Cicilline may have his eyes on Smith Hill. The article states Cicilline is, “(w)idely considered one of the state’s most viable gubernatorial candidates for 2010.”
I don’t like to stray too far into politics here, but seriously, is anyone a viable gubernatorial candidate in 2010? Does anyone even want to be Governor in 2010? It will be interesting to see how the Mayor handles the sh!tstorm of a budget proposal the current Governor is sending his way.
One thing’s for sure, the 2008 election cycle in RI was a bit of a snoozer, but the 2010 cycle should be crazy fun!

Jef, you might remember a certain interview w/ the mayor just after his 2006 re-election when a journalist tried to sandbag him asking about a potential run. Instead of being surprised, he was all set with his talking points/non-denial denial: I love the job I have.
He knows that if he runs, he will win. If he wins, the legislature will send him some sort of marriage equality bill, and he will sign it.

As a gay person, I would be very pleased to see the lavender ceiling be broken here in Little Rhody. David will have to show that he can steer the city through this economic catastrophe though if he wants my vote in 2010 (regardless of what he ends up running for).
