I hope that if the train does have federal money then the project is built following the US department of transportation federal highway administration recommendations regarding the crossings. Living in one of the towns that the train will pass through I want those crossings as safe as possible. The Railroad-Highway Grade Crossing Handbook - Revised Second Edition August 2007 says new at grade crossings are not recommended. There are safety issues; one of them is having emergency vehicles such as fire trucks and ambulances delayed at a crossing. I wouldn't want to be having a heart attack and have my ambulances waiting for a trian. And don't kid yourself this is not about commuters the whole plan is to have freight trains on this line.Emergency vehicles waiting for a freight train to cross could be the difference between life and death. Let's make the train safe for everybody.
