I spent about 1 month trying to get an answer about the nasty stench was that would routinely fill our SilverLake neighborhood, especially on weekends an early in the morning. After calling every environmental office, it eventually led me to the Johnston landfill. I talked to the manager, and was told that they had a broken “thingamajig” that they couldn’t fix because of lack of money. When I asked about what the smell was, the answer was “methane gas.” When I asked “have you done any studies to find out how these methane gas clouds may be affecting the people in the nieghborhoods?” Silence. “No.”
After about3 months of this, the smell grew less, but it’s NOT GONE. Does anyone care that methane gas clouds are sweeping over our neighborhoods? And it’s from the Johnston Landfill?
