Breakfast on the Bridge, Sydney

Last Sunday, the New South Wales government closed the Sydney Harbour Bridge, laid sod on it, and invited 6,000 people to come have a picnic breakfast. Breakfast on the Bridge was part of the city’s month long Crave Sydney festival celebrating art, comedy, food, and outdoor living.

If you are at all familiar with the geography of Sydney you’ll know that the city is cut in half by the harbor and that the bridge provides a vital link across the harbor. Shutting the bridge is no small thing (as you can see from the photo above though, the trains kept running). Even with the logistics of shutting down cross harbor traffic for a day, the city plans to make this an annual event.

Gets me to thinking, we should be planning a bridge festival for the old Route 195 before it gets torn down. Something for New Year’s maybe..?
