Downcity water main break

A water main burst on Sabin Street outside the Rhode Island Convention Center at around 11:30 this morning. I took these photos at approximately 2:30pm showing a substantial amount of water still flowing into the street:

The break lifted an entire section of the sidewalk outside the Convention Center at the end near the Dunk:

When I walked by again around 4:00pm, the water had subsided to a trickle and Water Department Workers were gone.

ProJo reported that water at their Sabin Street headquarters had turned rusty. I can confirm that at my house on Federal Hill we also have rusty water and their was a slight rust tinge to the water in the Promenade Building earlier this afternoon.

  1. This explains why my water was rusty brown today. When it burst it stirred up sediment and plus the contamination from the ground.
