Providence Children’s Film Festival (02/12-02/15)

The Providence Children’s Film Festival was founded in 2009 to bring high quality, independent and international children’s films, animation, and documentaries to Rhode Island, and to present them as shared theatrical experiences for the community. Please join us for our inaugural event – four days of big screen fun for the whole family, including screenings, workshops, and presentations, over the Presidents’ Day Weekend (February 12-15, 2010), at the Cable Car Cinema and the RISD Museum.

Films have been selected through several means: Award winners and favorites at major children’s film festivals in the last two years, through an open call for submissions, and through recommendations and submissions by RI filmmakers and educators. The program includes live action, animation and documentaries, shorts and features, and one program of films made by RI youth and the participants of our workshops. The festival committee has sought especially films with content that speaks positively to children of diverse backgrounds and ethnicities. Parents will find a range of films for different age groups, with useful guidance for content and age appropriateness (still to come) on the Films page of this website. Many screenings will have a live introduction, brief comments about the films and their themes, and many will include a bonus short film in the same range of age appropriateness.

Educational opportunities are vital to our mission – be sure to check out the festival workshops, which are led by experienced animators and filmmakers.

See you at the movies!
