Greater City Providence

News & Notes – Art & Culture Edition

Obey

It is all murals all the time here at Greater City: Providence! Andre emerges today on the Shepard Fairey mural on Aborn Street. Obey.

The Providence Roller Derby sent us a video of them practicing earlier this week at the Skating Center in Kennedy Plaza:

Their next home bout is Saturday the 14th at the Convention Center, check their website for details.

When they’re not busy trying to steal Curt Schilling’s video game empire from us, the Bucket is working on their annual arts festival. We keep getting emails and reading about it on the Faceplace and thinking, “oh, that’s not ’til September, we’ll write about it later.” Except that September is like right around the corner and the first festival event was last night! Oops.

Check the Pawtucket Arts Festival website for their massive list of events happening now through the end of September.

I have no idea if it is cool or not to like OK Go, but they’re playing a live show tonight (yes, tonight, Friday the 6th) in Waterplace Park as part of the city’s Waterplace Park Concert series (actually, as the last act of this season’s series). The concert is free and begins at 7:30pm at the Rosa Parks Amphitheatre (which is the Waterplace Park Basin in case you didn’t know).

And… the Rhode Island International Film Festival kicks off next week:
