  • Yeah yeah yeah… its blocking the sidewalk, but better that than a pedestrian under a truck tire. I know for some it is a big inconvenience but I guarantee that it is a “better safe than sorry” move.

  • This is not as bad as the signal light pole in the middle of the sidewalk on Admiral St. This is the signal light used by the fire station. There is a second pole also in the middle of the sidewalk a little farther down.

  • I wonder if it was Public Works or RIDOT that was responsible for the Admiral Street signal placement. The only thing that seems to matter to these agencies are cars. There’s no reason why the pole couldn’t be placed right up to the granite curb. Also, why is it that these signal poles grown so much in girth recently?

  • Sorry if we seem a little sensitive AF, but it’s clear that pedestrians are an afterthought and we’re tired of it.

  • AF, you do not have enough sense of irony. See, here is a sign warning pedestrians about impending danger. But it blocks the sidewalk, creating two senses of irony.

One – the people for whom the sign was intended can now no longer use the sidewalk. So you are stuck in a loop – create sign to protect the people who use the sidewalk but not can’t use the sidewalk so there is noone to protect, etc.

Two – the people that the sign is trying to protect now have to divert onto the roadway, which is dangerous.
