The Steel Yard invites community members to celebrate the completion of their multi-year environmental cleanup project on SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 25 at noon. The celebration will be immediately followed by the Yard’s annual Iron Chef competition.
With support from the EPA, RIEDC and countless private donors, businesses and foundations, the Steel Yard undertook a multi-year brownfield cleanup process to mitigate lead contaminated soils that originated with the site’s former use for steel fabrication. Costing close to 1.2 million dollars, the Steel Yard cleanup will join a number of other similar projects that have taken place along the Woonasquatucket River.
