Streetfilms MBA: Traffic Calming

Streetfilms has launched a new series of videos, Moving Beyond the Automobile. As Streetfilms releases each video in the series, we’ll be posting them here for you to enjoy.

Traffic calming is any measure taken to reduce traffic speeds, improve safety, and over all make using the street a better experience for everyone. As Chicago Alderman Mary Ann Smith notes in the video, “Signs don’t do the job.” The most effective traffic calming features are those that force traffic to “behave in a civilized manor,” she says. This video is a brief overview of the concept of traffic calming and highlights some examples from cities across the country. What great traffic calming features work well in your neighborhood?
