Youth Voices on the River, April 22

Youth Voices on the River
Friday, April 22nd, 2011, 3-5pm
One Depot Square, Woonsocket, RI

Join RiverzEdge for a presentation and community conversation led by teens and their historian mentors about life on the Blackstone past, present & future. The teens have conducted significant research on the history and ecology of the Blackstone as part of their participation in a year long workforce development program Art, Landscapes & Ecology on the Blackstone.

There will be a multimedia presentation and exhibit of works reflecting on their experience building a relationship with the river. Participants have completed an impressive body of art and design works including maps and architectural models that will be on display to help them tell their stories and reflect upon what they have learned. A moderated panel discussion will follow, engaging audience members in a conversation about the relationship between the river and the people who live on it as reflected through these “indigenous” youth voices.

This event is made possible by RI Council on the Humanities, RI DEM, Workforce Partnership of Greater Rhode Island and the John H. Chafee Blackstone River Valley National Heritage Corridor Commission.

This is a free event and all are welcome. The Depot is a handicapped accessible facility. Please call if you need special assistance at 401-767-2100.
