  • This looks like SO MUCH FUN! I’m sorry I will miss it, but i do have a question if Bret is reading– why no vegetables from Israel?

  • Jen, I’m not sure what you’re referring to… If it’s the predominance of meat mentioned, of the 15 or 20 or so teams last year, several made vegetarian chilis. My team (we won last year actually!) created our recipe for a vegetarian chili and used meat just for the competition, but I still think it’s better as a vegetarian chili. The event was a lot fun and I’m looking forward to going back this year as a observer, and not a contestant. We decided to quit on top :-).

Also, Israeli vegetables are amazing. We really have no concept of what fresh fruits and vegetables are here compared to what Israelis live with on a day to day basis. Our farmers markets don’t even come close to replicating the freshness. There are several Israeli recipes that are useless here in the US since a lot of taste of the recipes depends on the “punch” that the freshness of the ingredients give…

  • In the rules for the event it said No Vegetables from Israel and I wondered why.

FRESH VEGETABLES: may be purchased from any source. No leafy greans. Fresh produce from Israel cannot be used. See below for more information regarding vegetables.

Sorry I can’t be there, but have loads of fun and take pictures!
