Rhode Island Pride Festival and Parade in Providence – June 18, 2011

Rainbow flags on the Crawford Bridge during last year's Pride Festival

Rhode Island Pride events have been happening all month until the culmination on Saturday with the Festival and Parade.

The Festival kicks off at 12 noon on South Water Street and features Grammy winner Thelma Houston as the headliner, among other acts and food and other events.

At 8:30pm, the Illuminated Night Parade makes its way through Downcity along Empire, Washington, and Dorrance Streets. The traditional reviewing stand at PPAC won’t be used due to construction on Weybosset Street.

  • Is it just me or has there been considerably less buzz for Pride this year?

  • I agree, which is part of why I did a post about it. I hate to be that old queen, but the whole festival business is kinda over for me, I’ve been doing it for a lot of years. But every year is someone’s first pride, so I’m glad for it to be there. I still tend to enjoy the block parties and there’s usually something in the parade that makes me smile.
