DELICATE STEVE – frantic electronics give way to easygoing riffs; NJ (Luaka Bop)

In just over a year’s time, the five-piece wordless band fronted by guitarist Steve Marion has become one of the most talked about bands in NYC. Last seen joined onstage by Sonic Youth’s Lee Ranaldo, Delicate Steve’s hyperactive live shows have been likened to the explosion of multiple suns and celebrated from Fader to Stereogum, New York Times to NPR. With audiences in Brooklyn and New York reading like a Pitchfork who’s who- members of Yeasayer, Dirty Projectors, Javelin, Fang Island, Beirut.. the list goes on.. Delicate Steve might be worthy of a reflexive backlash if the band’s music wasn’t so irony-free, so sincere, so joyful, and inclusive. A young band growing live on stage each night, this is an early opportunity to see what is developing as one of the better live bands playing right now. Wondervisions was released by David Byrne’s label Luaka Bop earlier this year.
