
The Rhode Island Department of Transportation and the Rhode Island Council on the Arts are seekiing a muralist for a section of highway wall along Route 195 in East Providence. Please see below for more information and where to find a copy of the RFQ.
The Department of Transportation is seeking proposals from qualified outdoor Muralists for professional services related to the painting of a mural on a wall along Interstate 195 in East Providence. This is part of a project spearheaded by the Governor’s office, in which RISCA has been involved in providing input and feedback.
The mural design has been selected by a committee and is included in the RFP, which can be found here.
This project needs to be completed by May 25, 2012.
A Pre-Proposal Meeting to review the RFP and ask questions of DOT staff is set for March 27, 2012 at 9:00 AM at the Rhode Island Department of Transportation – Traffic Management Center Conference Room located at 2 Capitol Hill, Providence, RI 02903. Why is the state wasting the money on a mural that will only go the way of the murals on Rt. 6? It’s going to get tagged until it’s unrecognizable, and the anti-graffiti task force is going to paint it grey. (Not that the anti-graffiti task force is the problem)
Put a thin electric see-through mesh fence over it so the taggers get zapped sort of like a bug-light. That would show ‘em!
Part of the RFQ is to source and install a graffiti resistant coating over the mural.
…so much for the bug zapper.
It couldn’t hurt to have two lines of defense.
