Mayor Taveras Advises Commuters and Residents of Street Closures During X Factor Auditions

PROVIDENCE, RI – Mayor Angel Taveras today advised residents and commuters to prepare for street closures and traffic delays because of auditions for the hit talent competition THE X FACTOR. Auditions are scheduled to begin on Wednesday at the Dunkin Donuts Center and may continue, depending on the number of contestants, until Friday.

“I am excited to welcome THE X FACTOR to Providence and look forward to the next big pop act getting their start in our capital city. The auditions will bring thousands of people to our city and will cause disruptions to regular traffic patterns. I urge all Providence residents and commuters to plan ahead and prepare for heavier traffic in and out of the city on Thursday and Friday of this week,” said Mayor Angel Taveras.

All lanes of Sabin Street will be closed between Mathewson Street and Empire Street beginning at midnight on Wednesday, May 9. The street is scheduled to remain closed until Friday, May 11 at 10pm. RIPTA will detour bus routes beginning Tuesday. A complete overview of RIPTA’s accommodations can be found here.

I was nice to have the business but I could have done without the noise. The performers whooping up the crowd were way too loud. It was ricocheting off the surrounding buildings something fierce. I doubt Hasbro would have put up with it if they were occupying their future site.
