PHOTO OP: Demolition of house to make way for parking

STATE HOUSE, Providence – A vacant house adjacent to the Salvatore Mancini Resource & Activity Center will be demolished tomorrow thanks to the efforts of Senate Majority Leader Dominick J. Ruggerio (D – Dist. 4, North Providence, Providence). After the town’s purchase of the property and transfer to the Mancini Center, the Majority Leader worked to find a construction company to demolish the house at no charge. Manafort Brothers, Inc. is volunteering to demolish the house. The Mancini Center will use the property for additional parking.

  • Hooray! Gather ’round and bring your cameras! Get rid of that pesky old housing stock and make way for cars!

  • Also, beautifull old Japanese maple tres will come down for the parking, especially egregious because they help separate the commercial senior center from the residential neighborhood behind it. The town administration seems to have little concern for nature, they also apparently want to build new ballfields, parking for 50-60 cars and drop-off lanes on the Camp Meehan property that town recently acquired with help of a DEM grant that many of us thought would be kept primarily as open space.
