WPRI: Security officer at Newport naval station dies

A security officer at Naval Station Newport has died on base after being struck by a government car driven by another Navy employee.

A base spokeswoman said Friday that the man, a detective in the security office, was hit around 1 p.m. on Thursday. He was taken to Newport Hospital, then to Rhode Island Hospital in Providence, where he died at 10:15 p.m
