Greater City Providence

  • We’ll be a real city when we integrate transit into events like the art festival instead of constantly detouring (Waterfire, Pronk, etc).

  • I’m not sure that’s a fair critique. It’s not like transit was removed, it was just moved a half block to a block away. It still looks pretty well integrated with all routes going directly to the heart of the festival.

  • I understand what you mean, but I think it is a problem for transfers. I haven’t seen how exactly this affects through routing for things like the R Line or 1, but my experience from Waterfires is also that the buses are mired by traffic.

This is going to be a great event, so let’s stay positive–but fixing this problem next year would be great.

  • It shows that public transportation is still a second class citizen in this city. This is an example of POOR design. Stanison, if you would have used public transportation during the latest restructuring of the Plaza you would have been able to comprehend the “transfer issue” which can literally be over 1/3 mile walk from one end to the other, not bad for those of us who can “run”, but it isn’t anywhere near ADA compliant.

The Plaza, better now than it was, should have had a little more planning so it could have easily incorporated a PERMANENT Public Transportation hub and SPECIAL EVENTS. Both are detrimental to our Cities reemergence. We really need to get the car hugging suburbanites out of city/transportation planning….and get URBAN PLANNERS in
