Weekend Holiday Events Downtown


A few events coming up this weekend to celebrate the Holidays:


Grant’s Block and Aurora
Saturday, December 5, 2015 – 10am-6pm

Providence Flea will be hosting a special Holiday Mini-Flea at Aurora from 10am to 4pm. Santa will be at Grant’s Block for free photos, along with a collection of your favorite food trucks. Holiday music will be spun on vinyl and a special holiday Movies on the Block will commence at sundown.

RISD Alumni + Student Holiday Art Sale

Rhode Island Convention Center
Saturday, December 5, 2015 – 10am-5pm
General Admission: $8.00; free for current RISD students and children under 14

City of Providence Christmas Tree Lighting

The Providence Rink
Saturday, December 5, 2015 – 5:15pm-7:15pm

Event hosts Mayor Elorza and WJAR’s Patrice Wood will light up the Christmas Trees at the Alex and Ani City Center and Providence City Hall. This event is free and open to the public. Hot chocolate, candy canes, hot cider and snacks will be provided throughout the rink by some of our sponsors.

Activities and performances include:

  • An interactive sculpture
  • Wrapping and weaving festively painted branches with Artist Carrie Hyde
  • The Brown University Skating Band
  • The Wheeler School’s East Coast Acapella Champion, The 18 Wheelers
  • A skating exhibition produced by Olympic medalist Michelle Kwan, Sarah Mirza DiNardo, and Brad Vigorito, featuring Rhode Island’s figure skating clubs, national champions, and local skaters
