walkinpvd-iconJohnston police say a woman has died, and a man is in critical condition after being struck by a car in Johnston Monday night.

Officers at the scene said alcohol does not appear to be a factor in the crash though rainy conditions and poor visibility may have contributed.

Road design is also a factor.

  • So sad. The police I saw interviewed mainly blamed the pedestrians, wearing dark clothes, not crossing in a crosswalk (like the motorist who didn’t see 2 humans crossing would have seen the crosswalk!) Also poor lighting. Naturally the driver couldn’t be expected to slow down in bad visibility, the poor dear.
If there was any check of the driver for texting or yakking on a cell phone that wasn’t reported, nor apparently was there any real check for alcohol beyond what “appeared.”
There actually ought to be a crosswalk and decent lighting at most key bus stops.
