All of the rumors (from good sources) about what was going into the former Delkin’s Cleaners at 9 Wayland Ave (restaurant? accounting firm? deli?) all turned out to be wrong.
Judging from some slick signage up on the redone facade, this is international real estate firm Engel & Volkers’ (I had to look them up too…) Rhode Island office. Having over 300 offices worldwide, this branch is only their 7th in the United States, joining good company in CA, MA, NY, FL, CT, and VT. Their timing seems absolutely terrible (or maybe not as, despite some price cuts, RI home sales are still up) but the vote of confidence of an international firm in locating in Providence to do business (joining their offices in such communities as Greenwich, CT; Scarsdale, NY; Woodstock, VT; and Los Angeles) can’t be seen as anything but a good thing.
If there’s any downside here, it’s just that this becomes the second retail frontage site in Wayland Square to be recently occupied by a realtor, hardly the stuff that builds dynamic streetscapes.

Only time will tell….but I have to disagree with the statment “it’s just that this becomes the second retail frontage site in Wayland Square to be recently occupied by a realtor, hardly the stuff that builds dynamic streetscapes”
Engel & Voelkers offers Homes of Distinction ie Homes with Great Character, Great Locations, and all the amenities buyers are sure to notice.
Having a Engel & Voelkers property shop in town is a shopping experience. Wait, watch, and see that more people spend time at our windows than most other stores on the street!
Congrats on PVD joining over 338 other Great Spots lucky enough to have a property shop!
And for those who are not lucky enough, see us online at http://www.engelvoelkers.com
Engel & Voelkers are a joke company. I worked for them as a trainee. Our office; not one sale after a year.
That office has yet to open in Wayland Square, by the way… It’s still not done and I have not seen any work done on the interior in some time…
