School Vacation FUN! at Providence Children’s Museum

Children's MuseumProvidence Children’s Museum is the BEST place for school vacation fun! The Museum is open during vacation, Wednesday, December 26 – Tuesday, January 1, from 9:00 AM – 6:00 PM. Families can explore ThinkSpace, a major new exhibit exploring spatial thinking, and enjoy these special programs and performances:

Block Party
Wednesday, December 26 • 10:00 AM – 4:00 PM
Kids mix and match the Museum’s massive collection of colorful building materials! Stack imaginative blocks of all shapes and sizes to create towering structures, construct room-sized block cities and more.

Sparky’s Puppets
Thursday, December 27 • 1:00 & 2:00 PM
Sparky’s Puppets dramatize favorite children’s stories with colorful hand puppets, lively humor and plenty of audience participation. See playful puppet performances of funny folktales from around the globe that feature clever critters and magical happenings. Meet a family of mice in Japan, laugh at the antics of Anansi the Spider, a trickster from West Africa, and see a pesky goblin try to outwit a hard-working European farmer. Shows at 1:00 & 2:00 PM; recommended for ages 3 and up.

The Rhythm Room
Friday, December 28 • 1:00 & 2:00 PM
The Rhythm Room weaves together the energy and power of world percussion, horns, drums, guitars, piano and keyboard to create rich melodies while providing a visually stimulating experience for audiences of all ages. Kids feel the rhythm as they join the band and try out different percussion instruments. Shows at 1:00 & 2:00 PM; recommended for ages 3 and up.

Rolie Polie Guacamole
Saturday, December 29 • 1:00 & 2:00 PM
This spirited trio from Brooklyn, NY entertains audiences with high-energy interactive shows that mix funk, rock and folk music with humorous original tunes about natural living, eating healthy and staying active. The band is celebrating their third album, “Houses of the Moly,” a cover album of traditional children’s songs. Shows at 1:00 & 2:00 PM; recommended for ages 3 and up.

Stick Structures
Sunday, December 30 • 10:00 AM – 4:00 PM
Families build huge three-dimensional structures from wooden dowels and rubber bands. Create structures that are large enough to climb inside and construct a giant cube that stands up on its own!

Bright Night
Monday, December 31
Bright Night is Providence’s arts and family-focused New Year’s Eve celebration. Ring in the New Year at Providence Children’s Museum with Bright Night performances throughout the afternoon:

  • Sparky’s Puppets • 12:30 PM
    Sparky’s Puppets perform “Stories from Snowy Lands.” See a snowman come to life and meet a toymaker and an ice fishing bear in these playful winter tales. Recommended for ages 3 and up.
  • Rock-a-Baby • 1:30 & 3:30 PM
    Explore instruments and move to the beat during concerts featuring puppets Rhythm, Melody and Harmony – an interactive and educational music experience for children up to age 6.
  • Storyteller Carolyn Martino • 2:30 PM
    Carolyn Martino performs “Stories from Here, There & Everywhere!,” entertaining audiences with fun, lively and interactive tales. Recommended for ages 3 and up.

Museum admission is free for Bright Night wristband wearers from 12:00 – 6:00 PM on Monday, December 31. For more information, visit BrightNight.org.
