Central Falls Police said they were called to Roosevelt Avenue around 3:05 a.m. Saturday, where they found a 51-year old Pawtucket man in the roadway.
[…]At his arraignment, [Rigoberto] Vasquez was charged with driving while intoxicated, failing to stop in an accident resulting in serious personal injury, driving with an expired license, among other charges.
Central Falls Police said the victim is in critical condition at Rhode Island Hospital.
Valley Breeze had a little more information in their article. http://www.valleybreeze.com/2016-01-18/pawtucket/pawtucket-man-charged-after-hitting-pedestrian-taking#.Vp56ryorKHs
From speaking with someone who has spoken with a friend of the victim, it doesn’t sound like he’s likely to survive the injuries.
Note there are hearings on Assembly bills related to hit-run and pedestrian/bike safety coming before the House Judiciary Committee on Tues, Jan 26 in Room 101 in the State House at the “rise” about 4:15pm.
Specifically to be heard are H7032 and 7091 on increasing penalties for ht and run, and H7168 which would phase in a ban on (most) use of hand-held cell phones while driving.
