Farm Fresh RI is building a new RI Food Hub on Kinsley Avenue near the Steel Yard.
Farm Fresh RI describes the Hub:
Plans for the future home of Farm Fresh Rhode Island are underway! On a recently purchased 3.2 acre site in the Valley neighborhood of Providence, we are developing the Rhode Island Food Hub. The Hub will provide aggregation and distribution of locally grown food and produce, production facilities, opportunities for nutrition education and job training, and retail markets for both the individual consumer and wholesaler.

This looks like a great organization, and a terrific facility. Its a shame that it is located in a “transit desert,” particularly when job training is part of its mission.
Looks great. Its tough to find fresh food anywhere outside of the East Side, so I applaud their efforts and will encourage them.
From a design stand point, I believe this site would work better for the street if their front steps opened onto the sidewalk.
There are farmers markets in Providence off the East Side. In fact, Farm Fresh RI runs several markets that aren’t on the East Side. Most of them, actually.
You can find them here.

You’re welcome!
Thanks for the link Jen. I’ve also recently discovered the nearby Valley Price Rite which carries reasonably priced fruits and veg.
Looks nice… despite all that surface parking… why can’t Providence get hip to the roof or underground parking… ie. Ikea, Whole Foods (DC; Gowanus, NY). There are just better, more urban and transit oriented parking alternatives out there.
