Ted Nesi reports for WPRI about the possibility of the South Street Power Station (aka the Dynamo House) being used as the location for the proposed URI/RIC Nursing School.
Yesterday Brown announced their intention to build their expanded School of Engineering on College Hill, ending speculation that Brown would use the old power station located in the Jewelry District.
I wouldn’t be surprised if Brown considered the reuse of this landmark as an option to consolidate its music department. Performance spaces, auditorium, rehearsal space, department offices, cafe/restaurant, an outdoor amphitheater along the water and adjacent to the proposed park and pedestrian bridge, a direct link between College Hill and the Warren Alpert Medical School…
This space really ought to have some type of public access/component and what a great way by incorporating these performance spaces here along the park a la Boston Shell Hatch de Providence. I think the city, public and school would benefit tremendously.
I love Andy’s idea
Didn’t Sundance want a Providence location?
Love the performance space concept, but Brown is unlikely to move any undergraduate program off the hill. This was the reason they didn’t move engineering – there isn’t enough time in the schedule for students to move between classes.
